Not offending anyone, Facebook / Meta wins Worst Business of the Year award
Who would have thought that changing your name would change the way people see a business? Sadly, if that was the case for Facebook, it didn’t work, as an audience survey found Meta to be the worst company of the year.
Like every year, Yahoo! Finance selects a “company of the year” based on its market performance and other accomplishments, while also selecting a “worst company of the year”, asking its audience about the company that has had them the most upset.
While it could be said that these are different metrics, there are many reasons why Facebook got this title as the worst company of the year. Yahoo! Finance said that while Robinhood, Nikola and other companies were in the survey to which 1,541 readers responded, Facebook received the most written votes with 8%.
What’s especially interesting about the company formerly known as Facebook is the number and variety of reasons people don’t like it. It received 50% more votes than runner-up Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, not for a single offense, but for a litany of grievances from groups of people who may not have much to do with it. ‘other on what to agree.
One of the reasons so many people got mad about Facebook / Meta was the company’s effects on children and youth, something we’ve covered a lot lately regarding the Instagram controversy.
Even if it seems that Facebook could redeem itself since about 30% of Yahoo! readers think so.
One respondent said Facebook could redeem itself by acknowledging and apologizing for what it has done and donating a “considerable amount” of its profits to a foundation to help it right its wrongs. While some people saw the Meta rebranding as a cynical attempt to change the conversation, following Don Draper’s advice in the scandal, others were excited about the potential for a new direction that could a) be interesting and b ) something different from the aging social media model. . A significant number of responses focused on executives and founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
