Leave California and Live After California Facebook groups reach over 150,000 members

Community helps guide Californians as they consider leaving the state

I believe over a million Californians will leave the state this year. Our mission is to help them figure out where to go and how to get there.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, USA, March 9, 2022 /EINPresswire.com/ — The incredibly popular Leaving California and Life After California Facebook groups have attracted more than 150,000 members who are eager to leave or have already left California in hopes of a “better life.”

Growing an average of 1,000 new members and select members per day, Leaving California and Life After California have become trusted resources for Californians seeking new states of origin and for those adjusting to their freedom and finances found. The reasons for the apparent exodus from the Golden State range from frustration with the high cost of living to a desire for less liberal politics.

What started as a hobby project in 2018 by longtime California (now Florida) resident Terry Gilliam has turned into a full-time job and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon.

“When I created Leaving California, I was just curious if other Californians besides me were tired of the exorbitant cost of living and outrageous political environment that has become normal in California. I think that more than one million Californians will leave the state this year,” Gilliam said. “Our mission is to help them figure out where to go and how to get there.”

The original Leaving California group was created and shared among friends and neighbors. Word spread quickly as more residents joined the community and the conversation, sharing their reasons for a potential move. Before long, it became apparent that the members weren’t just dreaming, but were genuinely interested in dating. Gilliam, a career real estate professional, answered member questions and assembled a list of trusted experts to offer tools, services and actionable steps towards relocation.

One such expert is relocation specialist coach Alison Woodall. Woodall, a recent California transplant who now lives in Georgia, offers tools and courses to help members realize their dream of leaving California. She also produces videos for the Leaving California YouTube channel and helps coordinate the monthly email newsletter.

As potential movers turned into experienced transplants, it was time to start a Life After California group where a new conversation could begin. Here, members share both uplifting tales and recommendations on where vendors travel, packing, travel routes, cities and towns where they landed, recommendations from employers, and stories of welcoming neighbors.

The overwhelming response prompted community creator Gilliam to expand to other regions, including New York and Illinois. And by request, Gilliam has added two new groups, Leaving the Left Coast to include Oregon and Washington, and Leaving Liberal States, a nationwide targeted community.

Top California states head to Idaho, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Florida, three of which have no income tax and many lean right.
